Cultivating Vicarious Post-Traumatic Growth: Psychodramatic Mutual Aid for the Helpers
May 3rd, 2020
In the midst of this pandemic, healthcare
workers are enrolled as frontline emergency responders and all psychotherapists
enrolled as trauma therapists. The collective trauma and loss upon society
impacts patients and professionals alike. Professionals are even more
susceptible to vicarious trauma and burnout due to the intensity of the work
and the inability to separate one’s self from it.
This workshop will help participants identify
signs of vicarious trauma while engaging in a mutual aid process together.
Strength-based sociometry and psychodrama processes will be employed to
highlight each group member’s inherent ability to contribute to the well-being
of each other. The concept of vicarious post-traumatic growth will be
emphasized with a visioning and concretization of growth after this collective
and vicarious trauma. Participants will learn basic teletherapy experiential
tools while contributing to the self-care of self and others.
